 Narmada River Trail on foot

 1,007 km | 47 Days | Solo | 2018

Historically and geographically, Narmada has been of paramount importance to India. It spans across 1300 kilometers and divides the north from the south of India. It is because of these Narmada River and Satpura-Vindhya mountain ranges that the Aryans could not attack the south of India. The southern heritage remains intact. ‘Narmada Parikrama’ is an old religious ritual.

My journey around the Narmada was like a pilgrimage of the non-believer. My idea was to explore the Narmada river and get to know the indigenous people in the surrounding area. I was also curious about the atmosphere in the rainy season. I wanted to explore every bit of the Narmada river and hence my journey spanned from the Gulf of Khambat to Amarkantak. It took 47 days to complete Narmada River Trail on foot spanning 3 states (1,007 km).
